Every fall since 1967, the Saints have been a staple in the lives of New Orleanians. With a bond that extends far beyond sports, the team and the city have become ingrained in each other.
As the home of the Saints since 1975, the Superdome has become a focal point for New Orleanians. It's more than just a place to watch football; it's a stronghold to get behind everything the team represents, the embodiment of an entire city.
In 2010, the Saints had a record breaking year: they clinched the NFC South title and went on to face the Minnesota Vikings at home in the Superdome for the NFC Championship. After being neck in neck during all four quarters, the game went into overtime ending with a nail biter moment as the Saints kicked a perfect field goal that sealed their fate and won them the game title of NFC Champions.
The Saints took on the Indianapolis Colts in their first-ever Super Bowl in Miami. In a tense, close game, the Saints defeated the Colts 31-17 to become Super Bowl XLIV Champions. Super Bowl XLIV went down in history to be the most-watched television program.
New Orleans felt the excitement: fans erupted in celebration and turned to one another, hugging and crying. Revelers flooded Bourbon Street with cheers of "Who Dat" and impromptu second-line parades. New Orleans had gotten its miracle - the Saints had made it to the Super Bowl for the first time in franchise history and became Champions.
